Our Culture

What is the Cross Church Culture?

Cross Church is a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, multi-generational fellowship of believers in Christ located in Denton, Texas. Cross is a place where everyone is welcomed and no one walks alone. As a result, we’ve created a culture of making everyone feel apart of the family.

Our Beliefs

At Cross Church, our beliefs in the following areas are foundational to our faith community:

The Bible

The Bible is God’s infallible, living word to all people. It consists of 66 books and was written by human authors under the divine direction of the Holy Spirit. Because it was inspired by God, it is free from error and constitutes the only infallible guide in faith and practice.

God

There is one God, the Creator of all things, infinite in being, and perfect.

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the Second Person of the Triune God. He is the Son of God who became incarnate without a human father, was born of the virgin Mary making him both divine and human. He lived a sinless life and died on the cross for the sin of all mankind. He was laid in a tomb but rose from the dead on the third day. He ascended to the right hand of God the Father. He shall come again to complete his saving work and to complete the eternal plan of God.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the Third Person of the Triune God. He works to persuade us to repent of our sins and confess Jesus Christ as Lord. He lives inside of us, equipping us with spiritual gifts to carry out the ministry of Jesus Christ.

Mankind

God created Adam and Eve in His own image. By disobedience, they fell from their sinless state through temptation by Satan. This fall plunged humanity into a state of sin and spiritual death. From this condition, we can be saved only by the grace of God, through faith, on the basis of the work of Christ, and by the Holy Spirit.

The Church

The Church represents the living body of Christ and is comprised of believers in Jesus Christ.

Ordiances

We believe it is important to uphold the scriptural practices of the early church. Therefore, we hold to the practice of water baptism and the regular taking of Communion. Water baptism by immersion is a public testimony in one’s trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior. It is also an outward sign of the inward sanctification performed by shedding Christ’s blood for the believer. Communion, often called “The Lord’s Supper,” is a memorial in which Christians identify with the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It’s also a time for believers to remember Christ and all that He has done for us in his life, death, and resurrection.

Spiritual Gifts

The spiritual gifts in 1 Corinthians 12 and Romans 12 are gifts of grace, given by God to encourage the church. These gifts are reflections of God’s grace expressed through individuals by the power of the Holy Spirit. These gifts are given by God to those whom he chooses.

Salvation

Salvation is a gift from God through Jesus Christ and is not a result of human work or effort but the acceptance of His death, burial, and resurrection.

Jesus Return

Christian’s hope is in the soon-coming, personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Our Purpose

Cross Church exists to love God and love people in everything we do.

Our Values

Our values are rooted in our beliefs and guided by our purpose. They are our commitment to who we strive to become in Jesus. Here’s what we value at Cross Church:

Follow Jesus

Following Jesus is an ongoing commitment starting with accepting Him as Savior, then being baptized and becoming a fully devoted disciple of Jesus Christ.

Authentic Community

God created us for a relationship with Him and others. Cross Church is a place where no one walks alone. We get connected as we attend and get involved in the ministry of Cross Church.

Embracing Diversity

The church consists of diverse people and we aspire at Cross Church to cross every barrier and line of division to become one church where everyone can belong.

Serve Others

Sharing God’s love comes through the act of serving. We are called to offering our talents, time, and resources as full-time ministers serving others in the places we live, work, and worship.

Give Generously

God commands us to be generous and bring the first portion of our talent, time, money, and lives to God.
